Company profile:

Terabee innovates robotics sensing and perception, providing faster, smaller and lighter-weight 2D and 3D distance sensing solutions. Our unique approach and products are perfect for mapping, SLAM, navigation and collision avoidance on ground and airborne robots.

In addition to the design and supply our TeraRanger products we also work with customers to meet their specific needs, designing bespoke solutions to support a wide range of applications.

Background: Terabee began as a drone services company, providing mapping, inspection, analysis and photogrammetry services. In 2012 Terabee started a long term collaboration with CERN to use drones for autonomous inspections inside the tunnel of the Large Hadron Collider. However, it soon became clear that the sensors required for this lagged far behind what was needed, and through our partnership with CERN, we realised we could improve on the existing sensors and make something truly fit for purpose. After an intense R&D phase the first TeraRanger sensors were born in 2014. Using infrared and Time of Flight principles the TeraRanger sensors can be very light (weighing just 8 grams), very fast (up to 1000 readings per second) and very small. In other words, perfect for use on drones and other fast moving robots!

Products and services:

We develop and integrate TeraRanger sensors and solutions for sophisticated drones and robots requiring high performance measuring and sensing solutions at an acceptable cost. Our current products include:

TeraRanger one

TeraRanger One, is a fully eye-safe, infrared Time-Of-Flight sensor with fast refresh rates (up to 1000 readings per second) and a range of 14m. All this in a very compact (29x35x18mm) and lightweight (only 8 grams) design with low power consumption. TeraRanger One is far faster than ultrasound and far smaller and lighter than laser-based systems.

TeraRanger Duo

TeraRanger Duo is a powerful sensor for detecting all manner of surfaces and obstacles. It combines our advanced infrared Time-of-Flight (ToF) technology with high quality ultrasound technology to provide redundancy for the occasional situation where ToF may not be the optimal solution.

TeraRanger Tower

TeraRanger Tower is a simultaneous multi-axis scanner capable of replacing traditional laser lidar scanners in some applications. It is totally silent and has zero moving parts, resulting in greater efficiency and reliability. It combines 8 TeraRanger One sensors and the TeraRanger Hub to create a lightweight, fully eye-safe scanner for Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM) and collision avoidance on fast-moving ground and airborne robots. Calibrated distance data is streamed from a USB or UART port as an array of synchronised distances, in millimetres while free ROS nodes are available to help get you up and running quickly.
